BOOMTOWN IDOL 2018

 

Start Date: Online registration from December 15, 2017 to January 19, 2018. In-house January 1-19, 2018.

End Date: February 2, 2018

 

Three judges for “live shows” – TBA

Band: Appaloosa

Format: Based on 30 entries

 

To enter: 

Entries will be received through http://www.boomtowncasino.ca. Online registration is from December 15, 2017 to January 19, 2018. Entries will be received in house during operating hours from January 1, 2018 to January 19, 2018. Ballots including first/last name, phone number and email address will be located in the lounge. Once a ballot is completed, it is to be dropped in the raffle drum located in the lounge.

 

On Sunday January 21, 2018 a maximum of 30 names will be drawn from the raffle drum by a member of Boomtown Casino management. Contestants drawn will be contacted by phone to attend auditions on Sunday January 28, 2018. Contestants will be emailed a copy of the rules and the official song list once their audition is confirmed. It is the contestant’s responsibility to contact the Casino should they not receive the rules and official song list prior to auditions.

 

Sunday January 28, 2018

6:30pm – All contestants will check in at the Boomtown Casino Lounge and receive the order of auditions and a numbered tag.

 

7:00pm – All contestants will perform a song/part of song of their choice, a cappella, in front of the judges. No original songs are to be sung during the competition. No musical instruments may be used during the competition. The judges will decide by rating contestants from 1-5 on scorecards provided which contestants go through to the next round. The 15 contestants with the highest ratings will go through to the “live shows”. In the case of a numerical tie for 15th place, all contestants who scored for 15th place will proceed to the next round.

 

Each contestant will pick one song from the official play list, schedule a rehearsal time and register their song before they leave auditions. This is the song they will rehearse with Appaloosa on Monday January 29, 2018. Once songs are registered, there will be NO changes allowed.

 

SAVE ME FEATURE: One audience SAVE will be awarded to an eliminated contestant. In order for the eliminated contestant to be SAVED they will have to receive the most SAVE-ME messages on Boomtown Casino’s Facebook page. SAVE messages can be received at www.facebook.ca/boomtowncasino.ca in the following format: SAVE (CONTESTANT’S NAME). Only one SAVE per valid Facebook account will be counted.  This will be the only method that an audience member can cast a vote to SAVE an eliminated contestant. SAVE-ME messages will be accepted from the end of the auditions on Sunday January 28, 2018 until 11am on Monday January 29, 2017 as time-stamped by Facebook’s logging system. Any SAVE-ME’s received prior to or after the designated time will not be counted.

 

The SAVED contestant will be called via phone on Monday January 29, 2018 and will receive the final rehearsal spot on Monday January 29, 2018 at 7:30pm unless otherwise agreed.

 

Monday January 29, 2018

3:00pm – 4:45pm & 5:30pm – 7:30pm – all 16 finalists will check in at the Boomtown Casino Lounge at their scheduled rehearsal time. Their song choice will have already been registered the night prior. All 16 finalists will have the opportunity to rehearse their song at their scheduled rehearsal time with Appaloosa. The rehearsals will take place in 15 minute intervals and timed by Boomtown Casino staff.

 

Tuesday January 30, 2018

6:30pm – 16 finalists will check in at the Boomtown Casino Lounge and receive the order of performances and a numbered tag.

 

7pm – Each of the 16 finalists will perform their rehearsed song from Appaloosa’s play list in front of the audience and judges. The judges will decide by rating contestants from 1-5 on scorecards provided which finalists go through to the next round. Only 10 finalists will make it through to the next round. In the case of a numerical tie for 10th place, all contestants who scored for 10th place will proceed to the next round.

 

Before leaving for the night, all 10 finalists will register 3 songs from Appaloosa’s song list and schedule a rehearsal time for Wednesday January 31st, 2018. The band will pick one of those three songs and that will be the second song each contestant performs. Upon arrival to rehearsal on Wednesday, January 31st, they will be told what song they will sing. Once songs are registered, there will be NO changes allowed.

 

Wednesday January 31, 2018

5:00pm – 9:10pm – all 10 finalists will check in at the Boomtown Casino Lounge for their scheduled rehearsal time. All 10 finalists will have the opportunity to rehearse their band pick song at their scheduled rehearsal times with Appaloosa. The rehearsals will take place in 25 minute intervals.

 

Thursday February 1, 2018

7:30pm – 10 finalists will check in at the Boomtown Casino Lounge and receive the order of performances and a numbered tag.

 

8pm – Each of the 10 finalists will perform their band pick song from Wednesday in front of the audience and judges.  The judges will decide by rating contestants from 1-5 on scorecards provided which finalists make it through to the FINAL round.  Only 5 finalists will make it through to the FINAL round. In the case of a numerical tie for 5th place, the cumulative total of all scorecards from the auditions and “live shows” will be used to determine the finalist. Each of the 5 finalists will pick and register one additional song from Appaloosa’s play list to rehearse with Appaloosa on Friday February 2nd.  The 5 finalists will be given a scheduled rehearsal time. Once the song is chosen and registered, there will be NO changes allowed. This song will be performed by the WINNER of Boomtown Idol on Friday February 2, 2018.

 

Friday February 2, 2018

2:00pm – 4:30pm – Each of the 5 finalists will have the opportunity to rehearse their “WINNING” song at their scheduled rehearsal time.  The rehearsals will take place in 30 minute intervals.

 

7:30pm – 5 finalists will check in at the Boomtown Casino Lounge and receive the order of performances and a numbered tag.

 

8:00pm – 8:30pm – Appaloosa will perform.

 

8:45pm – Each of the 5 finalists will perform BOTH their chosen song and their band pick song from Appaloosa’s play list in front of the audience and judges. The judges will decide by rating contestants from 1-5 on scorecards provided which of the 5 finalists will be the WINNER of Boomtown Idol. Judges decisions will be FINAL. The WINNER of Boomtown Idol will perform their WINNING song and welcome Appaloosa back on stage. In the event of a tie the order from 1st place – 5th places, the order will be determined by a cumulative total of all scorecards (possible 110 points) from the auditions and “live shows” for each of the tied finalists.

 

Prize Money

 

1st place – $2000 cash

2nd place – $1000 cash

3rd place – $750 gift certificate for Campbell’s Music

4th place – $600 cash

5th place – $400 cash

 

All contestants must be over the age of 18 and be able to provide a valid government I.D. upon request.  Contestants may not appear on the Boomtown Casino Barred List or CVSE program. No relatives of Boomtown Casino staff or judges are permitted to enter Boomtown Idol (defined as parents, siblings, children and spouse).

 

Management reserves the right to remove any contestant from the competition at any time for any reason.  Any use of profanity or questionable conduct will result in immediate dismissal from the competition. Boomtown Casino reserves the right to cancel or change in part or entirely Boomtown Idol at any point during the competition.

 

Waiver of Liability

 

Winner agrees, except where prohibited, that the Boomtown Casino may use winner’s names, picture, portrait, likeness and voice for advertising and promotional purposes without compensation.  By entering, the contestant agrees that Boomtown Casino, its affiliates, partners, advertising and promotion agencies and suppliers and all of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents shall have no liability for, and shall be held harmless for and against any damage, loss or injury that may arise in whole or part, directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of prize or participation in this contest.  Boomtown Casino makes no warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the use of prize.  Those who complete ballots with email addresses choose to opt-in or subscribe to the Boomtown Casino email list for future promotional offers hereby holds the Boomtown Casino harmless.  Those patrons who wish to opt-out or unsubscribe to such email offers may do so at any time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BOOMTOWN IDOL SCORE CARD

VOCAL QUALITY – In this category, judges should analyze the performer’s technical vocal qualities.  Pitch, tone, projection, and control should be factored into the score awarded.
VOCAL CLARITY – In this category, judges should determine the clarity of the lyrics and performers ability to remember them.  Articulation (vowels and consonants), understanding the lyrics being sung, and lyrical accuracy should be primary factors.
EVOKING EMOTION – In this category, judges should analyze the performer’s ability to bring the song to life.  Emotional sincerity, dynamics, facial expressions, and communication of the songs message should be taken into account.
STAGE PRESENCE – In this category, judges should analyze the performers comfort level on the stage.  The ability to hold the audience’s attention should be considered. The actions on stage should complement the song choice.
SONG CHOICE – In this category, judges should analyze the song selected by the performer and how well it was performed.  Song difficulty, unique choices made by the performer to “make it their own”, and how well the song suited the performers voice/style should be accounted for.
OVERALL PERFORMANCE – In this category, judges should reflect on the scores earned in all categories and provide a score that clearly reflects the overall level of performance.
